Washington CNN —A federal judge has temporarily blocked an Ohio law seeking to regulate kids’ access to social media platforms, saying that the law is likely unconstitutional. Monday’s order by District Judge Algenon Marbley reiterates what Marbley said last month when he issued an emergency order halting the Ohio law from going into effect. Ohio’s legislation would have required social media platforms to obtain parental consent before creating accounts for children under age 16. It’s the latest blow to states that have vowed a crackdown on social media in the face of mounting claims that the technology contributes to mental health harms. The country’s central bank signaled that it would reverse two decades of policy precedent and begin to move away from loose monetary policy intended to keep wages and prices high. That suggests Wells Fargo may not be out of the penalty box with regulators anytime soon. The case came from North Carolina, where the state Supreme Court applied free-elections and equal-protection provisions of the state constitution to invalidate a congressional map the Republican-controlled legislature drew in the expectation of producing GOP victories in 10 of the state’s 14 districts. The court-approved map used instead for November’s election resulted in seven seats apiece for Democrats and Republicans, roughly mirroring the state’s partisan makeup.
